Our Pregnancy Journey - Month 1

MONTH 1:

Month 1 here and going strong. Little did we know that when we thought we were 2 weeks along, we were technically 4 weeks along based on how calculations are actually done. So much for a full 9 months to plan for our little poppyseed to arrive. 1 month down, 8 to go!

PREGNANCY BRAIN...

Pregnancy brain has official begun... The first of many experiences I'm sure. As evidence... I spent the last 10 minutes looking all over the house for our pregnancy test results, which we wanted to use for a quick picture for the blog. They had been sitting on the kitchen counter for a couple of days (gross, I know, but they were encapsulated at least!), but they were no longer there. I distinctly remembered moving them to what I thought was a "convenient" place so that I'd find them easily for our picture. I checked all the typical spots as well as all the convenient spots. 10 minutes later I found them... If you can guess where I ended up finding them...you know my brain much better than me!

Bedroom? no.

The fridge? no.

Bathroom counter? no.

The closet? no.

Trash can? clever, but no.

Kitchen counters? still no.

Give up? yes!

The sneaky little test results were hiding out in our Office Supplies box (with the rubberbands of all places!)...

If you are scratching your head right now...let me retrace my steps... I do remember getting a rubberband to place around the tests, but had no clue I actually put the tests in the rubber band container, back in the office supplies box, and then back in the cabinet. Oh this is going to be a looooong 8 months!

At least I have an excuse now for my crazy, unpredictable, and unexplainable brain...

MINOR VICTORY:

Minor Victory... Hubs taking one for the "dad" team! Tonight I got out of my first freezing cold grocery store run. It was a close call though. First, I'd like to mention that I was already standing outside (albeit in our church welcome tent) in 25 degree weather for 90 minutes. So it took me a good 2 hours to finally warm up. After I finally got toasty, Hubs asked if I wanted to accompany him to the store in the now 20 degree weather. My response... "Well, to be honest, I'm neutral on the situation...but baby thinks otherwise... Baby says it's too chilly outside and thinks that too much energy would be consumed trying to keep mom and baby warm instead of developing our little poppyseed..." Valid point baby, you win! #2against1 #babyalwayswins

Hubs response... "Looks like for the next 8 months, I better get used to being in a lose-lose situation... Apparently, it will always be 2 against 1 for the next 8 months (you and baby against me)." Hubs is a smarty pants, but I'd say that is probably a pretty accurate statement. :)

THE OVERALL FEELS

I have to say, I've been feeling pretty alright, with no morning sickness yet (knock on wood). I have had some intermittent stomach cramping, but I'm hoping for the best and not driving myself crazy by researching as I already know what I will inevitably find... a little bit of good along with a host of nightmares. So I'll just stay positive and wait until my 2 month appointment and first ultrasound on Feb. 5th! #prayersalwayswelcomed!

No more interesting cravings so far. I thought for sure I'd be hungry, but the crazy thing is, I've actually had no appetite the last week. I've had to force myself to eat and have been trying to make healthy, conscientious eating decisions, now that I'm eating for two.

SLEEP STRUGGLES:

Thankfully, I'm feeling pretty great during the day, minus the occasional bouts of sleepiness that are probably more the result from the challenges I have trying to fall asleep and stay asleep. I'm naturally one of the nightest of all night owls and actually despise the idea of going to sleep. For some reason, when the clock strikes 10PM, my brain switches to on and full speed ahead. My most productive times are actually between the hours of 10PM-2AM. It's not uncommon for me to stay up until 2AM (though being married has somewhat changed this). I've never been fond of taking naps either... My husband on the other hand not only LOVES naps, but he can fall asleep literally within 15 seconds (I've timed him) and in every awkward sleeping position possible. Case in point.

Apologies for the horrible quality picture. This is actually a screenshot of a hilarious video of hubs sawing logs, but since I couldn't figure out how to upload the video, the picture is all you get for now (use your imagination of the loudest snoring you've ever heard, and you'll get the idea). He is somehow balanced on the seafoam chair while using the black chair as a pillow... Only hubs would find that awkward position comfortable enough to fall sleep...

As you can tell, sleeping is one of his secret talents. I'm REALLY hoping our baby poppyseed gets his sleep habits and sleep skills! (We've already been praying for this!)

Because of my sleep issues, before pregnancy, I took waaaaay too much melatonin to fall asleep. I have now officially cut this out and any other unnatural sleep remedies, so I am struggling quite a bit trying to get my brain to relax. I'm sure most of it is in my head (along with years upon years of unhealthy sleep habits and all-nighters), but for now, I'm trying to trick myself into sleep with chamomile tea, hot showers, reading a book, orange tinted glasses (oh this is a treat...), relaxation counting, and an episode or two of New Girl when all else fails. I'm praying I can get into a new and healthy sleep cycle soon! #prayersalwayswelcomed!

Once I actually fall asleep, the next issue is staying asleep. I'm pretty sure I woke up at least 4x last night having to go to the restroom. Before I as pregnant, I'd already wake up at least 2x per night. #smallbladderproblems I can only imagine this is just the beginning of my late night runs...

POPPYSEED PICTURE:

Obligatory "1 Month - Poppyseed" Picture. :) Since baby is officially the size of a poppyseed, it's time for that predictable monthly picture... (I was clearly still chilled after a long day outside (hence the scarf and stocking cap.)

That's a poppyseed by the way (not a mole...) ;)

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for Month 2 updates (and "hopefully" no morning sickness)!
